A workshop was organized by Birla Vidya Niketan on 7th August with the theme– Rimjhim: A drizzle of wonder and discovery in physics. The workshop provided a unique opportunity for students and teachers to interact with Prof H C Verma, the renowned ex-professor, at IIT Kanpur and learn directly from the master.

During the workshop, various concepts in optics were explained by Prof HC Verma in a fun way using hands-on technique designed keeping in mind the curriculum of class 9th students. The workshop started with an explanation of buoyant force vs gravitational force. It was followed by students learning to make a microscope with paper and gained knowledge about the path of light and its scattering effect through a beam of laser light in soap water. This made the students learn more about reflection and refraction connecting the dots of their course curriculum with visual demonstrations. Then the concept of inversion of the image was explained by taking the example of the lateral inversion technique used in the ambulance. The session concluded with the last activity in which students understood the concept of amplification of sound through a funnel. By the end of the workshop, students participated enthusiastically in the question-answer session with Prof HC Verma about various concepts. It was a very interactive and learning session for the students.
